Luis MinteguiA great multi-sport athlete, Luis Mintegui played both football and soccer in college. But as a member of San Jose State's soccer squad, Luis began to focus his attention on soccer and was eventually awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by SJSU Spartan Athletics. Mintegui joined the faculty of Half Moon Bay High School as a Spanish instructor in 1973 and took over the duties of coaching soccer. During his coaching tenure, he led the Boys' Soccer teams to 12 championships, nine of which were consecutive. He put Half Moon Bay Soccer on the map with NPL Championships in 1977, 1978, 1983, 1986 (Co-champ with Jefferson), 1987 (Co-champ with South San Francisco), 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991 (Co-champ with Jefferson), 1992, 1993, and 1994.

In 2007, the High School's MVP Student-Soccer Athlete Award was created in Mintegui's honor. Luis was proud to present the Arthur BB Reyes Memorial Soccer Trophy for the years of 1978-2000.
